Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand does not want Manchester United to let Leicester City win the title on their ground.
Leicester, who needs only 2 points to win the title, can win it by defeating Manchester United on Sunday.
Rio Ferdinand does not want this to happen and has urged Manchester United to try and win the game on Sunday. He said that it is never a pleasant feeling for another club to win the title on your ground, and it is important that the players put in an excellent display to prevent this from happening.
However, Rio Ferdinand believes that Leicester City are a good team and that they have been consistent throughout the season and truly deserve to win the league. He added that Claudio Ranieri has done a great job in building a good team spirit in the team that has helped them to win difficult matches throughout the season.
Ferdinand has also acknowledged the contributions that Nigel Pearson has made to Leicester City. He believes that he was the one that turned Leicester City fortunes around last season when he helped them stay in the Premier League. He said that Pearson was the one who laid the foundation, and it is now that they are reaping the benefits. German striker Lukas Podolski has spoken about his love for the English Premier League.
Even though the player spent only a couple of seasons in English football experiencing the top division, he has already seen enough of the game to suggest that he misses it quite often. Podolski is capable player of commenting on the quality found in the Premier League. As a top player himself, the German has been something of a journeyman. He has already played in the German, English, Italian, and Turkish leagues in European football.
This has given him enough experience of the style of football being adopted in these countries. After having experienced a number of leagues, Podolski dismissed suggestions that the Premier League was in decline. Premier League clubs have not been able to dominate the Champions League since the 2008 campaign. The title has been shared by the likes of the German and Spanish teams for quite a while. The last English team to win the Champions League was Chelsea in 2011-12 campaign, but they were largely second-best throughout the tournament. Podolski expects this element to change coming years, although the German himself will not experience Champions League football in the time being. Louis Van Gaal might have given the Manchester United fans a bit of joy with the recent results especially with the one at Liverpool, but, the sword is still hanging over the head of the Dutchman.
His job is in danger even today as per the reports and it actually should be that way because United doesn’t seem to have got any better from how they were playing in the first half of the season.
Yes, the results have not gone against them of late and it has made the fans stop asking for the manager’s sacking for a little while.
But, the fact is that the opponents, which United has come up against, have not raised the bar. Be it Chelsea or Liverpool or a couple other, neither of them has tested United.
And, that’s the reason the Red Devils have looked better as a team than they actually are.
But, what is most surprising is that Van Gaal is not brutally realistic about the situation.
Post the Liverpool game, it was very surprising to hear from him that United had announced themselves as a contender for the title again. He would definitely not have said that if he had been realistic.
Having played and managed for so long, he must know where his team stands and if they have actually got it in them at this point of time to push for the title. Surely, they have not. Continue reading Louis Van Gaal might have given the Manchester United fans a bit of joy
Former Manchester United boss David Moyes says that he was desperate to bring in Gareth Bale from Tottenham, but watch the Welsh midfielder joined Real Madrid instead. It was a foregone conclusion that Bale was going to join Madrid for a world record transfer fee, but United entered into the race to sign the Tottenham winger at the last moment. Moyes was hoping to persuade Bale into a move to Old Trafford, but this was not possible after the Welshman had set his sights on joining one of the biggest brands in the world.
Since joining Madrid, Bale has won the Champions League, Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. During the same period, United have struggled to have any chance at a title. The club had a very disappointing campaign under David Moyes, but the fortunes have been revived to a certain extent by Louis Van Gaal in his first season at the club. After returning to the Champions League following a fourth place finish, United are expected to undergo a spending spree once again in the upcoming summer. There have been reports of Bale returning back to the Premier League after being unhappy with life in Spain, but the25-year-old recently rejected the idea of a move. Manchester United defender Daley Blind has been a major reason towards the resurgence that the team has experienced in the last few weeks. They have managed to win three consecutive matches, but one of the biggest tests will come in the form of a home match against Manchester City. Manuel Pellegrini’s men have not been convincing away from home this season. This is clearly witnessed from their current away form. City have lost their last four trips away from the Etihad stadium in all competitions. Despite this,Blind is not expecting anything other than a very tough encounter on Sunday evening.
Blind got his first taste of the Manchester derby in the first half of the campaign and it ended in a sour note for United. They lost their fourth consecutive match against their arch rivals. Determined to improve on this very poor record,Blind says that United can dig into the confidence that they have built over the last few weeks in order to get a victory. Liverpool will be rubbing their hands at the prospect of seeing United drop points. Even though they have fallen eight points behind the Red Devils, the probability of closing the gap still remains with six matches left after Sunday. There are a number of players that are reaching the end of their respective contracts and this is the case of: Robin van Persie, Phil Jones, David de Gea, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, Rafael da Silva, Ashley Young, Javier Hernandez and Anders Lindegaard.
Louis van Gaal has to start considering whether or not to extend the contract of those players which will be expiring in 2016.
Out of those players previously mentioned, David de Gea has been the only one that has managed to stand out with a string of impressive performances and the Spanish goal-keeper surely deserves to have his contract extended and remain at Old Trafford if he desires on doing so.
Chelsea’s ThibautCourtois and Manchester United’s David de Gea are the 2 young goal-keepers which have been rated most highly and this is due to the fact that they continue on making amazing performances in almost every single match for their respective clubs.
