Former Manchester United boss David Moyes says that he was desperate to bring in Gareth Bale from Tottenham, but watch the Welsh midfielder joined Real Madrid instead. It was a foregone conclusion that Bale was going to join Madrid for a world record transfer fee, but United entered into the race to sign the Tottenham winger at the last moment. Moyes was hoping to persuade Bale into a move to Old Trafford, but this was not possible after the Welshman had set his sights on joining one of the biggest brands in the world.
Since joining Madrid, Bale has won the Champions League, Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. During the same period, United have struggled to have any chance at a title. The club had a very disappointing campaign under David Moyes, but the fortunes have been revived to a certain extent by Louis Van Gaal in his first season at the club. After returning to the Champions League following a fourth place finish, United are expected to undergo a spending spree once again in the upcoming summer. There have been reports of Bale returning back to the Premier League after being unhappy with life in Spain, but the25-year-old recently rejected the idea of a move.
“Gareth Bale is an outstanding player.I was desperate to take him to Manchester United from Tottenham, but couldn’t quite get him. He had his heart set on going to Real Madrid. He was very much on my radar as soon as I went to United. He can score goals, can make goals, he’s got speed, he’s physically capable, and I think next year he will be a big star in Madrid. It is down to settling in. David de Gea took time to settle at Manchester United, it is not easy,” said Moyes.
