孙燕姿, Sun Yanzi

Filed under: Chinese Media — RedKemp @ 11:23 pm

Mostly, the pop music that I hear in China is awful. Truly awful. But occasionally I will hear a song that is a little something different, and sort of good. This is one of those songs. I heard it on Channel V while I was in Sanya, and staying in my hotel room trying not to be fried by the sun.

I don’t know much about her, other then that she is from Singapore. Another song of hers, “天黑黑“ is successful although an uninteresting ballad.

And speaking of Sanya, I had severely burned my right foot while staying on the beach. Here is an extremely unappealing picture of my red and swollen foot. I decide to post it Humanaught style as a text link. If anyone wants to see my ugly foot, feel free an click on it.

My Burned Foot

Side note, Jenn’s mom thought that this was her daughter’s foot. I am really glad that Jenn’s foot is not this hairy.

  1. I like it too. Have you noticed that although perfectly clear Chinese the cadence seems very European (Dutch for example). Maybe it is just me… but specially since I started learning some Cantonese, Mandarin often sounds more European, perhaps I am just getting used to it?

Anyway for any who can’t get a good connection to Chinese videos it is also on youtube. http://youtube.com/watch?v=gXw3U-N50mM

  2. Ah, yes, I forgot to put a link to it on youtube, thank you.

I don’t know if I would call it more European, but her voice is certainly clear. It is so nice to hear that compared to most Chinese pop songs (specifically Jay Chou). It is like talking to someone with perfect putonghua after trying to understand a Beijing cab driver.

And Cantonese is a total and utter mystery to me.

  3. I still can’t believe my mom thought that was Jenn’s foot. It’s so offending! I also can’t believe that the reason your foot was that burned was because you baked it , literally in the sand! RIDICULOUS!

  4. hmmm….its not my style, but certainly has more meat than most Chinese pop music. My new personal find is a guy named Zheng Zhe Hua (郑智化) whom I’m sure most Chinese people have already heard of, but if took me 3 years here to discover. He was popular about 20 years ago, but his music is much better then most of the crap which is on the radio today.
