Former Manchester United boss David Moyes says that he was desperate to bring in Gareth Bale from Tottenham, but watch the Welsh midfielder joined Real Madrid instead. It was a foregone conclusion that Bale was going to join Madrid for a world record transfer fee, but United entered into the race to sign the Tottenham winger at the last moment. Moyes was hoping to persuade Bale into a move to Old Trafford, but this was not possible after the Welshman had set his sights on joining one of the biggest brands in the world.
Since joining Madrid, Bale has won the Champions League, Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. During the same period, United have struggled to have any chance at a title. The club had a very disappointing campaign under David Moyes, but the fortunes have been revived to a certain extent by Louis Van Gaal in his first season at the club. After returning to the Champions League following a fourth place finish, United are expected to undergo a spending spree once again in the upcoming summer.
