Robben thinks Van Gaal can succeed at United

Former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben believes that Louis van Gaal has all the abilities to be a huge success at Manchester United. The Dutchman recently took over from David Moyes as the new manager of the Premier League outfit and he has already made significant changes to the playing squad. The club has invested more than £ 150 million on several new players including British transfer record signing Angel di Maria. They recently got the first win of the season after a 4-0 thrashing of QPR at Old Trafford.

Prior to this victory, Louis van Gaal went four matches without a win and this raised suspicions that the Dutchman was not set for United. Those suggestions have been dismissed by Robben, who has played for Van Gaal at both club and international level. Van Gaal was the manager who brought him to Bayern Munich where he has had a hugely successful time by winning trophies like the Champions League and the Club World Cup. It is widely regarded that Robben and Robin van Persie are some of the close aides of Van Gaal at international level.

United will not be taking part in this season’s Champions League, but ahead of their own European campaign Robben says that United will be immensely successful under their new manager. “I haven’t spoken to him recently but I was very happy for him that he won the game against QPR. Hopefully now he can show that he will do very well but he needs time. I know how it works – if you are not winning, you get the pressure but the management at United know what sort of coach they have got and I am very confident he will be successful there. I have known him for a very long time,” said Robben.
