Napoli Drops Idea Of Signing Fellaini

Napoli seems to have dropped the idea of signing the Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini on loan and they are now interested in the Reds’ player Lucas Leiva.

Napoli had been very keen to land Fellaini in Spain, but, United is believed to have demanded too much money from them as loan fee and that’s why, they have now turned to Liverpool for Leiva.

Leiva had worked alongside Rafa Benitez when the latter was in charge at Anfield and he would not mind getting united with his former boss again considering his situation at Liverpool at the moment. He is not one of the first choices in the Reds squad for the holding role in the midfield.

Talking to the press about Fellaini a few days ago, Benitez had said, “It’s the Manchester United people who have to make any decision regarding Fellaini’s loan because the player belongs to them. It’s not up to us.”

“He obviously has great playmaking abilities and that’s why, he is so highly rated, but, he’s a player of other club. We need to be patient about this and let them decide.”

Fellaini had arrived at Old Trafford last year from Goodison Park. An amount close to 30 million Pounds was spent on him by the Red Devils, but, the output was not encouraging as the Belgian youngster couldn’t find the net in his entire debut season. He featured in 20 odd games, but, looked largely disappointing.

Louis Van Gaal, the new Manchester United boss, is said to be not that interested in keeping Fellaini at Old Trafford this summer.

Napoli was actually not such a bad club to play on loan for Fellaini. He’d have got the opportunity to play the European Cup football as well there.
